A Dance For One. A Lover's thing.
Those black lace shorts and the sheerness of everything appeals to the romantic in me. This here is a video from Australian brand Lover to showcase their new collection- they found Amber Scott, from the Australian Ballet, to dance for them. I swear, nothing quite shows off grace and beauty like the long lines from ballet.

Rumi, Colin & the Big Pony
I've been waiting for Rumi of fashiontoast to post this up ever since she first mentioned the video she and boyfriend Colin did for Red #2 from the Ralph Lauren big pony fragrance collection. Such a beautiful video, and I confess I've become quite curious about the photographer taking all those good shots of Rumi. (As an aside: completely jealous of his Leica camera!)

Watch this!
Taylor Momsen shows her (acrobatic?) moves as she escapes the paparazzi after a work out session. I still can't believe she's only 15! I really do have to applaud the Nike viral campaign team for a great fun ad! LOVE it!

Header 2.0
From the AW08 Jil Sander campaign. The structural (sculptural?) design of those shoes make such a bold statement, non? Black and white photography in all its wonder and its ability to capture that lovely feeling- such je ne sais quoi!

Graphic Header: Version 1.0
I finally got around to installing Photoshop on my newly formated computer and so, it's only right that I make a header for this blog. I mean- it's about time the layout stopped looking so boring and plain! The bird is featured in a Comme des Garçons advertisement that I first found in the pages of the September i-D. I was so mesmerized by it that there was nothing I could do but use it!
Edit: It seemed like some problems occurred with the header, which I hopefully just fixed. So I need to ask: does it work on your computer now? As in- can you see it?

Kaleidoscope dance
My favorite new ad of the moment- the Bonds kaleidoscope TV campaign! There's just some appeal to this human kaleidoscopic affair and well, who wouldn't love dancing around in colorful underwear to those funk tunes!
Isn't it seriously rocking?

AW07 Campaigns: Part II
It seems like a good time to do a continuation of my campaign review now that some more ads have surfaced (For Part I, click here). Hint to anyone who love to collect tear sheets, go and buy the August UK Elle! Not that I know directly- it's just that Manuva of TFS scanned in so many ads from that magazine (it's impossible not to love that community and everyone there)! Ok, let's see... which ones shall I cover in this post-
Bottega Veneta
This is a firm equal first with the Pringles ads!! That melancholic atmosphere coupled with the lighting! I think the beautiful dresses both juxtaposed and complemented the mysterious mood... making me think of femme fatales and dark bedrooms in that fabulous film noir style. It's also interesting that these ads couldn't have been more different to the SS07 ones, which had that fantastic old-world-classy Audrey Hepburnesque glow about it (Inguna anyone?), but both really fits the house to a T.
Chloé
These ads are very very much Chloé, and I think that's about all I can say! I guess they decided to stick with their tried, tested and true formula for the brand's target audience. I'm not too sure about Shalom Harlow though, she seems a bit too elegant to be the easy-going au naturale beautiful Chloé woman. Apart from that, great to see Freja in Chloé and my God! Anja is totally rocking her new beautiful Edie haircut!
Costume National
It gets a mention because of Julia Stegner, who have been fronting Hugo Boss wonderfully for quite a while until she got traded in this season for Catherine McNeil! Really wish Boss had kept her...
and finally, Calvin Klein Jeans

Which is, like the Chloé ones, very typical of the line. Or shall I say, the style of these ads is almost synonymous with the brand! Does anyone else see something just a tiny bit like MK Olsen in the left ad? The facial expression maybe?
I am expecting more ads to come through in those big September issues, so there will probably be a Part III in all of this!

AW07 Campaigns: Part I
The campaigns are gradually flowing in now, from one of the earliest being the vividly-colored Christian Dior ads to the Dolce and D&G ones popping up only yesterday, and for me... emotions ranged from disappointed to ecstatic. My favorites, as of now, are:
Pringles of Scotland
Definitely my favorite as of now: head over heels in love with the dark evocative neo-romantic mood of these print ads!! The metal structures/props lend a hint of industrialism into the mix, and the great clothes, great hair and beautiful styling means this gets a very strong nod of the head from me. The girl on the left looks hauntingly beautiful, no? That the campaign was shot in B&W makes me love it even more!! I am a big advocate of B&W photography because of the atmosphere it captures.
and D&G!
Quintessentially D&G, I suppose it might be considered a bit boring... but I like it! Very glamorous! The menswear influence is very now. It's fantastical! And look at Rachel Clark! I thought she really shone through in these ads. Why they feel a need to reuse the set bothers me though...

This Marc Jacob one, however, is more mediocre. It isn't bad per se... but I just cannot decide whether the marketing is genius or insane! To make it so small means that it is not nearly effective enough to catch the attention of a magazine flipper, but then one can say that the excess of white provides a stark contrast- hence catching their eye and making them want to study the clothes more closely. Definitely undecided on the ad...
I'll leave it there for now... but the ads are still coming in, so look out for a part II continuation of this!

IN2THIS.
The CKIN2U commercial. Wow. Finally saw it when I walked through the city Myer store a few days ago. I absolutely had to dig it up online to rewatch, even though I hate the name of the perfume. First thought when I heard the name was not the best response- "This is Calvin Klein, not some IM conversation." But this is what I'd call amazing advertising- forced me to look again because it was that good!! And fyi, the scent is very light, very fresh. LOVE it!! Might buy it!! Once again, it proves my point that it's an excellent commercial, no?
Freja looks breath-taking in it!! My favorite? The soundtrack and GOD! The beautiful elevator scene- Those cheekbones. That intense look in her eyes. The smile. She's so fine. As is the guy- actor Kevin Zegers.
